Everyday Life in Beijing

The following contains my own opinions so please understand that as you are reading.  These are things that I found interesting in Beijing.  Please click on the thumbnail to see the larger picture.

Traffic.jpg (26248 bytes) There is a constant mix of traffic everywhere. Traffic2.jpg (26491 bytes) You will see cars, bicycles and pedestrians.

Traffic5.jpg (28545 bytes) 12 million people and 8 million bicycles.   Each bicycle is registered and most have identifying marks.

Traffic4.jpg (24136 bytes) Everything moves amazingly well, but the average speed was about 25 miles per hour

Traffic3.jpg (29155 bytes) We even saw the occasional donkey.  LocalGroceryStore.jpg (29295 bytes) Grocery shopping is a bit different than what we were used to.
Street.jpg (30171 bytes) The antique market

StreetMarket.jpg (15246 bytes) I think this is the Russian Market or Yabao.   You can find almost anything in these stalls from clothing to fur coats.

SilkAlley.jpg (25922 bytes) Silk Alley- a famous tourist market.

StreetVendor.jpg (22196 bytes) Local vegetables and fruit beaniebabies.jpg (33493 bytes) Beanie babies for sale everywhere.  But be aware, most are either counterfeit or stolen. However the average cost is under $2/beanie.(US dollars)

LocalCarWash.jpg (29510 bytes) This was the local car wash.  (Note the hose)

TheBarber.jpg (20474 bytes) Need a hair cut?

DishwasherWashingMachine.jpg (23059 bytes) These are either dishwashers or washing machines.  Much smaller than I was used to. AmericanEmbassey.jpg (22363 bytes) The American Embassy is blocked off these days, but this picture was taken from the corner.

AmericanShopping.jpg (28758 bytes) This may look a bit more familiar. AmericanShopping2.jpg (29228 bytes) There are also a few American style restaurants.

AmericanShopping3.jpg (26948 bytes) I guess it is the same everywhere.

AmericanShopping4.jpg (28365 bytes) The waiters were dressed so elegantly, I thought I was in a very expensive restaurant.

Acrobats1.jpg (16585 bytes) These were taken at just one of the several acrobat shows offered.

Acrobats2.jpg (17991 bytes) Most of the performers were very young, but very good.
Acrobats3.jpg (11325 bytes) I lost count as to how many were on that bicycle.

Acrobats4.jpg (17287 bytes) I wouldn't want to even attempt this!

Nightscene.jpg (16944 bytes)
