The Forbidden City is over 500 years old and was ruled by more than 24 emperors.  It covers over 200 acres and is in the very center of Beijing.  It contains moats and gigantic timer doors which protected each "son of heaven".  No one entered here without the permission of the emperor.  Punishment for doing so was the death penalty.

Each emperor had a different lion design, and you can tell the which was which by the small changes.   The emperor was believed to be the son of the dragon or the son of heaven.   This one is in gold!!
