Temple of Heaven

 

TempleOfHeaven1.jpg (19487 bytes)   This building is one of the symbols of Beijing and has been photographed lots!!   TempleOfHeaven2.jpg (27260 bytes)   On Saturday mornings, people meet here.  We saw them doing ballroom dancing and playing instruments.

 

TempleOfHeaven3.jpg (28499 bytes)   The Chinese love children.  They still have the one child per family rule.  I heard it said that these only children are "little" emperors.   But they also love to take pictures of visiting children as well, particularly those who are blond. TempleOfHeaven4.jpg (29065 bytes)   If you would like to dress as the emperor and his family did, you can do so here and then take pictures of the results.

Beihei Park

Yonghegong Lamasery

 

LamaTemple1.jpg (35446 bytes)   Lamaism is a form of Buddhism. LamaTemple2.jpg (26659 bytes)   The Tower of the Great Buddha, holds an enormous statue of Maitreya, carved from a single trunk of wood making it the largest carving in he world. 

 

 

 

Lamatemple5.jpg (28153 bytes)   All the buildings are arranged symmetrically, with many side halls to shrine bodhisarrvas.

 

Lamatemple4.jpg (34494 bytes)   This lamasery was built in 1694.  I thought it was one of the best preserved original places that we visited.
