The Amazon - Brazil 2008

Manaus

Manaus was one of the first Brazilian cities to have electricity, and water treatment.  Because of the exportation of natural rubber, there were hundreds of architects brought in from Europe for an urban plan that would result in a city with European architecture embedded in the middle of the jungle.  The floating harbor, built to adapt to the tidal water level of the rivers, was imported from England.  Manaus is the largest existing commercial and industrial sector on the Equator and an important hub for Ecotourism thanks to its natural beauty and the indigenous people.  They speak Portuguese plus other languages.  We were amazed that they do NOT rely on gasoline.

If you look carefully, you'll see the fish that jumped OUT of the water into my husbands lap.  It was a very strange looking fish.  I asked if it was going back into the water and I was told that it was a "MY FISH" and was going to be dinner.  ;o))  If you might think it wasn't a weird fish.......just check out the expression on the lady in front of us.
